Members of Parliament have asked the government to declare this year, 2020 a dead year for education because of the increasing numbers of coronavirus cases in the country.

In a meeting with the Uganda Vice Chancellors Forum today, the National Economy committee of Parliament that regardless of Coronavirus, schools would still fail to accomplish the syllabus in the way its normally supposed to be done.

Arua Municipality Member of Paliament, Kassiano Wadri says the problem with allowing candidate classes to resume and sit for examinations is that it will clog the entire system since non-candidates will not have progressed to the next classes.

He adds, that  certain schools and universities are having studies online which is unfair to those in rural areas.

“Government should forget about the education this year, and resume next year after effective planning” said Elijah Okupa, the Kasilo County MP

Elijah adds that he will  not allow his children to go back to school even if the government opens saying the preference is to keep them safe and free from any kind of contraction.
