The position of Lord Mayor is one of the most respected political positions in Uganda. This is mainly because he/ she who becomes elected as Lord Mayor becomes the Political Head of Uganda’s Capital City and presided over all meetings of the Kampala Capital City Authority among other roles.
With a few months to the country’s general elections (2021), various candidates are already expressing interest in contesting for this noble position. Capturing our attention is a former Guild Presidential Aspirant at Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Kampala Campus, Mayanja Yakubu Musaazi.
Having Completed his first degree in Social Works and Social Administration in 2018 and currently enrolled for a Bachelor of Laws degree at IUIU, Mayanja Yakubu Musaazi who is 24 years of age has confirmed that he is contesting for the position of Lord Mayor.
Sources reveal that Mayanja Yakubu Musaazi is an ardent member of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) whose flag bearer is Gen. Mugisha Muntu.
Mayanja Yakubu Musaazi fronts his abilities as a policy expert who has trained with the Parliament of Uganda under the Department of Urban Planning and Development as well as the Committees on Health, Education and Sports and the Office of the President.
Yakubu is a proud old boy of Kisaasi College School and Muslim. He can be remembered for his cardinal role in organizing the visit of Mufti Menk to Uganda.
He has participated in several Buganda youth projects and was a “Jajja” of the IUIU Nkobazambogo Association.
He is one of the 20 young leaders of Extremely Together- Uganda Chapter, an initiative of the Kofi Annan Foundation that aims at advocating for peace in Africa and silencing the guns.
He has represented the Office of the President on several international youth fora for example the One Young World Conference in 2019, the United Nations Summit on sustainable Cities in New York 2019 and the African Union Youth Front on Covid-19.
He is known to be a jovial man among his colleagues, a great golfer, swimmer and chef.
