Lira University is set to house the Lira district youth hub after close to 8 years of looking for land where to construct it.
The hub is under the Presidential long-term skilling Uganda program which was launched in 2012 to address the youth skills and other innovations that can help the youths improve their standards of living.
Lira University has come out to provide 16 hectares of land where the hub will be constructed after the local government failing to secure land for the project. The local government had identified Aler farm, government piece of land located in Ngetta sub county but later failed to secure it due to conflicts with in.
The hub will provide hands-on skills in bakery, knitting, metal fabrication, hairdressing, tailoring and shoe making. All these will be at a relatively cheaper price compared to other vocational institutions in the districts
According to Augusitine Oyang Atubo, the University secretary, the students at Lira university will have a chance of attain vocational skills alongside their university qualifications.
The construction will start next month.
