With over 20 years now, you can’t talk about the education sector and mis mentioning Hajj Ali Mugaga most especially in the secondary school level mainly venturing into the Islamic based schools and sports.
Mugaga’s reputation and fame started way back in 1998 after being transferred from Nabisunsa Girls Secondary School to Gombe Secondary School where he headed the school for over 14 years.
In his regime at the Gombe based institution, Alhaji Ali Mugaga is well remembered for nurturing, shaping and grooming students and teachers along both circular and religion.
The 54 year old is mostly remembered to be passionate about teaching and has been credited for his management skills. He renovated and put up new structures in the school, greatly motivated and inspired teachers to work and invest for a the future to prepare themselves for the hard times.
In 2012, Mugaga was transferred to Lubiri Secondary School where he did more wonders and even went ahead to create more opportunities for both students and the teachers.
While at Lubiri SS, he set up an insurance scheme for all the students whereby if a student lost any of their parents, the school would ensure they go on with their studies until the finish ‘A’ level without paying a single penny.
On top of this, he put up a students’ working scheme whereby all students who couldn’t afford to pay their school fees due to lack of resources were given a chance to do various duties at the school during holidays and were given free education in return. These includes compound cleaning, slashing and many more.
Different student classes were given half and full bursaries, sports in the school greatly improved to an extent that Lubiri SS was the best school in handball in the whole of East Africa in 2014.
He was then transferred from Lubiri to Kibuli SS in 2015 where he resigned after 2 years in 2017 due to false allegations imposed onto him by different people in the media.
According to a close relative, Mugaga miserably left this school after a lot of attacks and accusations that were master minded by individuals who not only wanted to see the downfall of a great institution like Kibuli SS but also the rapture and downfall of an individual who was at the helm of putting the interests of Muslims in education and sports first.
