All unvaccinated health workers in Uganda have been ordered by the Ministry of Health to vacate their work places.
According to a letter dated 3rd December 2021 directed to all Chief Administrative Officers, Heads of National referral hospitals and all Directors of regional referral hospitals, Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa the Director General Health Services ordered a follow up on the vaccination of health workers against COVID-19.
The Director General Health, Dr. Mwebesa, says the government of Uganda has priotized vaccination of the population against COVID-19 as one of the key requirements for the full reopening of the economy and health workers have been given priority to take the jab.
He further noted that he is aware that some health workers are yet to complete the two doses of vaccination or even to receive the first dose of the same.
Following the above, Dr. Mwebesa instructed all unvaccinated health workers to stay away from their places of work until they get vaccinated.
“This is therefore to instruct all health workers who have not received vaccination against COVID-19 at all, must stay away from their respective places of work until they are vaccinated”, part of the letter read.
Dr. Mwebesa also directed that health workers who have received the first dose should continue working but be encouraged to receive the second dose as soon as it is due.
