A tragic incident unfolded as a collision occurred at Nawantumbi village along the Kamuli-Jinja road. At least six lives were lost when a vehicle, part of Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV’s convoy heading to Bugembe Cathedral for his wedding, veered off the road, striking individuals who were gathered to witness the royal procession.
The mishap transpired around 10:30 am shortly after the Kyabazinga’s convoy commenced its journey from his private palace in Budumbula, just a few kilometers from the accident site.
The involved vehicle, a Toyota super custom, reportedly swerved to avoid colliding with a taxi traveling from Jinja to Kamuli. The collision resulted in six fatalities and left eight others with severe injuries.
As investigations unfold, the police statement revealed that the bodies of the deceased were taken to Kamuli General Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.
The injured individuals were transported to various health facilities for treatment. The driver’s attempt to evade the taxi prompted the accident, and the vehicle involved is currently stationed at the police station awaiting inspection.
The identities of the victims are under scrutiny as authorities work to gather more information.
