In a tragic incident in Lapono sub-county, Agago district, a dispute over a small sum of money turned deadly. The disagreement resulted in the fatal stabbing of Tarasisto Okwera, a 53-year-old farmer from Nyer Ikan south village.

Police have detained Okello Aldo Akech, a 32-year-old farmer from Ocoyo Lamero village, for the alleged stabbing, which occurred around 2:30 pm on October 23, 2023. According to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the conflict arose when the suspect, who had been tasked with fixing the victim’s padlock for a fee of 2,000 shillings, demanded full payment and a scuffle ensued over the outstanding 1,000 shillings.
The situation quickly escalated, leading to the suspect forcibly taking a knife from the victim and stabbing him in the left side of his rib. Despite efforts by community members to intervene, the victim passed away en route to Kalongo Hospital.
Following the incident, an angry mob attempted to take matters into their own hands, prompting intervention from the Lapono Police post to safeguard the accused. Evidence retrieved from the scene included the knife believed to have been used in the attack.
