The appeal by Agnes Nandutu, the State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, to halt her trial in the Iron Sheet scandal has been blocked by the Constitutional Court.
Nandutu’s lawyers argued last week that the charges against her were imprecise, ambiguous, and could violate her right to a fair hearing.
Nandutu was previously arrested and held at Luzira Prison for her involvement in the embezzlement of government property intended for the people of Karamoja. She was later released on bail due to her deteriorating health condition.
Despite her objections, the court has refused to stop the proceedings and advised Nandutu to focus on challenging the charges. The court stated that the charge of being found in possession of suspect property against Nandutu is clear.
Alongside Nandutu, other ministers, including Amos Lugoloobi, State Minister for Finance in Charge of Planning, and Mary Goretti Kitutu, Karamoja Chief Minister, have also been charged with the same offense.
Further investigations are underway regarding several other ministers who are suspected of diverting Iron Sheets intended for Karamoja to their constituencies.
