A man in Busia district received a 30-year prison term from the High Court for raping his 60-year-old mother.
Justice Henry Isabirye Kawesa, the senior resident Judge Tororo High Court circuit, declared the accused, Jackson Okello, guilty based on prosecution evidence. Okello, a 30-year-old resident of Daha village, will serve his sentence at Morokatipe prison in Tororo district.
Justice Kawesa emphasized that the accused’s biological mother identified him, recognizing his voice and tracks. He dismissed the notion that a sane adult would falsely accuse her son in the presence of witnesses. The court revealed that the assaults occurred in September 2020 and June 2021, with the final attempt leading to the mother escaping.
Acknowledging family conflicts, the judge reduced the sentence from life imprisonment to 30 years after a plea from the accused’s lawyer, Serious Brian, highlighting the potential for reconciliation in family disputes.
