The education system suffered significant damage as a result of the COVID-19 lockdowns, leading to numerous individuals being unable to continue their studies due to financial difficulties and adolescent pregnancies.
Daphine Nabakooza, an 18-year-old residing in Kazo-Angola zone, Kawempe division, is currently facing the challenges of raising triplets after giving birth to them in August 2022 at Kawempe National Referral Hospital.

Since then, Nabakooza’s life has undergone a dramatic transformation, as she now struggles to support herself and her children.
Nabakooza became pregnant at the age of 17 in 2021, after her education in senior three was halted due to the COVID-19 outbreak. She was subsequently taken to Busia by a family acquaintance, where she found employment at an electronics store.
It was there that she encountered Mark Hillary, whom she claims is the father of her children.
“I used to attend Everest College in Luweero. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, I traveled to Busia to earn some money. That’s where I met Hillary,” Nabakooza explained.
According to Nabakooza, Hillary is a football player based in Busia. However, she alleges that she has been unable to contact him since giving birth.
“After he impregnated me, he abandoned me at the hospital when he discovered that I had delivered three children,” Nabakooza recounted.
Grace Nalubega, Nabakooza’s mother, explained their situation, stating, “We attempted to locate him, but our efforts were in vain. Eventually, we turned to radio stations for assistance, and one of Hillary’s friends reached out to us and provided his phone number.
However, he switched it off as soon as he heard Nabakooza’s voice, and it has been off ever since.”
Nevertheless, Nabakooza and her mother admitted that they had not yet reported Hillary for neglecting the children.
The exorbitant medical expenses and cost of living have left Nabakooza and her mother feeling frustrated. Consequently, Nabakooza is appealing to kind-hearted individuals to come to the aid of her triplets.
When contacted on Monday, Hillary denied being the father of the triplets. According to him, although he was in a relationship with Nabakooza, he is not the biological father of her children.
“I am not acquainted with those children. Yes, I had a sexual relationship with Nabakooza, but those children are not mine. She knows who the real father is; ask her about Victor Wandera,” he stated.

“Wandera is just a friend. He is not the father of my children; they belong to Hillary. I am even willing to have a DNA test conducted because even the boy resembles Hillary,” Nabakooza argued.
Nabakooza mentioned that her father, Eriya Kitaka, is equally unable to assist. Kitaka, a resident of Kyambogo in Luweero district, works as a construction worker. Nabakooza can be reached at the following phone numbers: 0763336963/0701772231.
