The court, presided over by grade one Magistrate Asuman Muhumuza, issued a warrant for their arrest and criminal summons against all their sureties after the state prosecutor, Ivan Kyazze, presented evidence of their continuous failure to attend court hearings.
However, the defense lawyer, Matovu Musa, contested the ruling, stating that the case had been lost track of since January 27, 2023.
As per court documents, Besigye and Mukaaku are required to appear in court on August 25, 2023.
The prosecution alleges that Dr. Kizza Besigye and Lubega Mukaaku staged an illegal assembly at Kikuubo Shauriyako parish in Kampala central Division, during which they made statements suggesting that it would be favorable to engage in demonstrations, an act that could lead to damage and destruction of property.
