Police in Nakasongola District are currently in pursuit of unidentified attackers who ambushed and fatally stabbed a dentist, his wife, and their six-month-old baby as they were returning home from work.
The victims have been identified as Julius Mutimba, a 45-year-old dental surgeon who operated a clinic and drug shop in Bamugolode village, and his wife, Resty Nakayima, aged 35, along with their infant daughter, known only as Immaculate.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday evening when the family was traveling on a motorcycle. They fell into an ambush that had been set up in Bamugolode parish, Kalongo sub-county, at approximately 9:00 pm.
According to Mr. Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, Mutimba had picked up his wife and baby at Nalubobya village and was riding on a motorcycle when they encountered a roadblock set up by the suspected assailants. The assailants’ identities remain unknown.
The lifeless bodies of the victims were discovered at the scene, bearing stab wounds and surrounded by a pool of blood.
They have since been transported to Nakasongola Health Centre IV Mortuary for postmortem examinations as the police intensify their efforts to locate and apprehend the suspects.
Mr. Edward Kimbowa, the LC1 vice chairperson for Bamugolodde village in Kalongo Sub County, reported that they were informed of the attack at approximately 9:30 pm.
Mr. Rogers Sunday Bwanga, the district councilor representing Kalongo Sub County and also the district council speaker, characterized the attack as a meticulously planned and coordinated murder.
He pointed out that the assailants had set up roadblocks using various obstacles such as stones, tree trunks, and barbed wires. It is likely that the suspects were in communication with each other via phone to ensure that only the targeted family fell into the trap. He appealed to the police investigations team to expedite the search for the assailants.
Nakasongola LC5 chairperson, Mr. Sam Kigula, urged residents to exercise vigilance. He found it perplexing that the assailants had chosen to block the road during hours when it would typically be busy with people. He emphasized the importance of heightened awareness in the community in light of these disturbing events.
