Paul Mwiru, a former Member of Parliament for Jinja East, has officially switched political allegiance from the Alliance for National Unity Transformation (ANT) to the National Unity Platform (NUP).
NUP Party President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu introduced Mwiru, along with other defectors from the NRM, FDC, and ANT, during a ceremony held at the regional NUP offices in Jinja City.

Starting as early as 8:00 am, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, accompanied by other party leaders, arrived in Jinja City and participated in a radio talk show.
Subsequently, they visited the residence of NUP influential member Muhammad Musisi, also known as Badman, in Masese.
Later, they led a procession through various streets in the town center, causing business activities to come to a standstill for over an hour.
Afterwards, they proceeded to the party offices, where they introduced the new members who had defected from different political parties.
The most prominent among them was former Jinja East MP Paul Mwiru.
Additionally, four Kamuli district councillors, led by Mbulamuti town councillor Chris Wabwire, crossed over from the NRM.

The NUP also gained Shabir Isabirye, the Chairman of Iganga district, from the FDC, as well as Paul Lugada, the counterpart in Jinja District.
During the event, Kyagulanyi encouraged party supporters to remain steadfast, assuring them that the party was steadily growing in influence.
The NUP leadership in the Busoga subregion expressed optimism that the new additions would greatly strengthen the party.
