News reaching the TUD news desk this weekend is of the government’s initiative of giving out 3.7 billion shillings as a move to enhance and improve its recently developed Covilyce-1 a herbal remedy for treatment of Covid-19.
This money is mainly to help the researchers carry out clinical trials, the eventual production and marketing of the herbal remedy before approval from the national drug authority.
According to Mr. James Onono the University’s Public Relations officer, President Museveni confirmed this during a meeting with a team of researchers from the institution that was held on Wednesday this week.
“The president also tasked the university to follow up on another 12 billion shillings pledged in 2012 for the construction of the faculty of pharmacy.” Onono added on while addressing the media.
The National Drug Authority under ministry of health also allowed the institution to use Gulu regional referral hospital for visual tests so that the effectiveness of the drug before massively supplying it to the public.
