Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda Kiira municipality Member of Parliament has declined to succumb to calls from relatives of the deceased security Minister Gen. Elly Tumwiine, who want him to retract his bitter statements he made while weighing in on the demise of the bush war hero.
“Gen. Tumwine is one person who has, since the bush, wanted to elevate himself above others, and that is how he was sacked as Army Commander,” Ssemujju said.

He added that Gen Tumwine is someone who has always exhibited a sense of self importance. Since the bush war days, Tumwine wanted to always be above the ordinary.
His comments drew a fierce backlash from family members of the fallen general who urgen him to retract his statements or else his own ‘death will be celebrated too.’
Speaking at the NBS Frontline last night where he is a regular panelist, Ssemujju stood by his earlier statements and called on other serving government officials to draw lessons from Tumwiine’s death.

“Tumwine is not the only senior military officer that has died. If you have been in active service and conducted yourself the way Tumwine did, the family should expect that. I sympathize with Tumwine’s children, they lost a father, but that’s what it means when you are in active service,” he said. “At the time, people were mourning their relatives shot during the campaigns; what did he say? Why doesn’t the family reflect on that? This is an emotional reaction,” he added.
