News reaching The Ugandan Daily News Desk is of the abrupt resignation of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).
In a letter dated June 26, 2020 Muntu has stepped down as the party president according to the party constitution which says that the party president has to be elected from the party members through voting.
The letter further says that Muntu will now seek election as the party’s flag bearer. He will however have no other chance of leading the party when he loses the flag.
Gen Mugisha Muntu launched the party in May last year, to rival other opposition parties in the bid to unseat President Museveni who has ruled Uganda for close to 35 years.
This comes less than 3 months to the start of the 2021 general elections campaign.
