Tragedy struck Kakumiro district last night when a fatal accident claimed the lives of eight individuals. These victims, who remain unidentified at this time, were market vendors en route in a Fuso truck bearing the registration number UBE 854D.
Their journey had commenced from Kisengwe market in Kakumiro district.

This heart-wrenching incident unfolded at approximately 9 p.m. on Tuesday, in Kyabasegu village, Kisengwe sub-county.
The Fuso truck, carrying over 70 passengers, tragically lost control at a sharp bend, careening off the road and overturning multiple times, resulting in the tragic loss of eight lives.
Survivors recounted that the driver was recklessly speeding when the accident occurred. In a desperate attempt to save themselves, some passengers attempted to jump from the truck, while the driver fled the scene immediately following the crash.
Joseph Niwaha, an eyewitness, described hearing anguished cries for help. Upon reaching the scene, he witnessed survivors grappling for assistance. Johnson Tulinawe, another eyewitness, noted that the bodies of the deceased were tragically trapped beneath the overturned vehicle when first responders arrived.
In response to this tragic event, Kakumiro District Chairman, Joseph Sentayi, issued a stern warning to drivers, urging them to avoid overloading their vehicles and ensure they are in sound mechanical condition.
Julius Hakiza, the police spokesperson for the Albertine region, reported that the identities of the deceased and injured individuals have yet to be confirmed.
The bodies of the deceased have been transported to Kakumiro Health Center IV mortuary, awaiting postmortem examinations, while the injured have been swiftly transported to the same health facility.
It has been reported that some of the accident victims hail from Kyenjojo, Mubende, and Kakumiro districts, underscoring the widespread impact of this devastating incident.
