Police in Luwero district is currently holding a woman in custody for allegedly strangling a child belonging to her co-wife.
Savannah Police region’s spokesperson, Sam Twiineamazima, has identified the deceased child as Maureen Nakirijja, who was one month and three weeks old.

On Saturday, August 11, 2023, at around 11:00 am, a murder case took place at Kabembe village, Makulubita sub-county in Luwero district. Twiineamazima reported that Bombo Police station is conducting the investigation.
The suspect, Gift Namyalo, is a co-wife to the mother of the deceased, Betty Nakiyimba. Both Namyalo and Nakiyimba are married to Lule Brian.
According to the information provided, at approximately 11:00 am on the day of the incident, Namyalo visited her mother-in-law’s residence.
After a short while, she noticed that Nakiyimba, her co-wife, had left to fetch water. It was then that Namyalo entered Nakiyimba’s house, where she found the baby.
Allegedly, Namyalo strangled the baby, closed the door, and attempted to flee. However, she was spotted by Ibra, the uncle of the deceased.
Ibra chased Namyalo while raising an alarm, which alerted the local residents. They managed to apprehend the suspect and took her to the Makulubita Police post.
Twiineamazima revealed that a team from Bombo visited and documented the crime scene, while a Scene of Crime Officer also attended.
A murder case was officially registered, and the baby’s body was transported to the City mortuary in Kampala for a postmortem examination.
Relevant statements were collected from witnesses, and the suspect remains in custody.
The police have stated that their investigations are still ongoing.
