A police officer in Mbarara shot and killed a UPDF soldier today at around 6:30 pm.
The incident happened inside the Mbarara Police barracks involving a Police Field Force Unit officer and a UPDF soldier.
The shooting comes at a time when gun violence has taken center stage in Uganda. 7 people have been killed by the gun in the past 14 days implying a killing rate every of one person per 48hrs in May.
The latest incident adds to the rising cases of gun violence in the country.
Early this month, State Minister for Labour, Col(Rtd) Charles Engola was shot dead by his bodyguard, Private Wilson Sabiiti who later turned the gun on himself.
According to several eyewitnesses, the Police officer killed his fellow because of a woman while others say that the UPDF officer was taking a selfie with a woman in the presence of the Police officer who didn’t want his photo taken.
