law enforcement officials in Nakaseke district have apprehended a sub-county chief and a cashier in connection with the misappropriation of funds designated for road construction.
According to Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Region Police Public Relations Officer, the individuals implicated are Charles Muwonge, who holds the position of Kikamulo sub-county chief within Kiwoko town council, and Joakim Sebusolo.

These two individuals are alleged to have unlawfully taken a sum of sh35 million intended for the development of road infrastructure.
Twiineamazima disclosed that the Kiwoko Police Station, situated in Nakaseke district, is actively investigating an incident of government fund misappropriation that transpired on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at around 7:00 p.m.
This incident took place in the Kikamulo sub-county, within Kiwoko Town Council.
He further stated that the embezzlement of these funds reportedly occurred between the months of July 2022 and May 2023.
The embezzled money was initially allocated as a government grant to support projects involving Kyasa, Mpanga, Nsanvu, Lusozo, Manju, and Lutalaji roads, all of which are located within the Kikamulo sub-county.
According to an audit report, the sub-county chief and the cashier were authorized signatories for the withdrawal of these funds. Subsequently, they acknowledged using the funds for purposes other than their intended use.
Upon receiving information about the incident from Robert Senuu Bogere, the LC3 chairman of the same locality, the police took action and apprehended the suspects.
Twiineamazima added that a formal case of theft has been registered and relevant documents, including the audit report, have been secured. Statements from witnesses have also been recorded by the police.
As the investigation progresses, the suspects continue to remain in police custody.
