The police in Namisindwa District have detained a man suspected of decapitating his wife, alleging that she was involved in an extramarital affair and taking her severed head to the home of her suspected lover.
The man in question is Vincent Bwayo, a 27-year-old resident of Watoko village in Butingu Parish, Bumali Sub-County. The incident reportedly occurred on the night of Friday, September 15.

According to Florence Busikwa, a resident of the same village, Bwayo was heard accusing his wife, Justine Wachemba, 23, of infidelity with a neighbor named James Musoba.
He allegedly shouted threats at her, stating, “I will one time cut off your head or your private part if you do not stop cheating on me. Your 40 days will come to elapse.”
Julie Namara, the Namisindwa Deputy Resident District Commissioner, confirmed the incident and stated that Bwayo is currently in custody at Namisindwa Police Station.
Namara revealed that Bwayo beheaded his wife at the River Salaa bridge while he was in the process of delivering her to Musoba’s home, which was only a few kilometers away. She added that the wife pleaded for forgiveness, as did the woman herself, but it was too late for the residents to intervene.
After the gruesome act, Bwayo left his wife’s body on the bridge and carried her head to Musoba’s doorstep before turning himself in at Namisindwa Police Station. Wachemba’s remains were transported to Mbale City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
In response to the incident, individuals believed to be relatives of the deceased vandalized Bwayo’s property, including crops, animals, and structures, on Saturday night.
Namara mentioned that security forces were deployed to restore order, but no arrests had been made in connection with the unrest. She urged the deceased’s relatives to remain calm and trust that justice would be served through the legal system since the accused is in custody.
Roger Taitika, the Elgon Region Police spokesperson, revealed that investigations were ongoing and that regional security forces would be stationed in Namisindwa on Sunday, September 17, to maintain security in the district and plan a way forward.
Taitika also noted that Namisindwa had experienced a high number of murder cases but did not disclose specific statistics. He issued a warning to those who had attacked Bwayo’s home, stating that they could face arrest.
