The lifeless body of the victim, who originated from Mahagi in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, was found by a casual laborer buried within a cornfield at a distance of two kilometers from their shared residence on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
Preliminary investigations suggest that around a month ago, the suspect contacted the deceased, asserting that their children were unwell.
However, upon investigation, it was discovered that the children were in good health, leading to a reunion between the suspect and the children. Nevertheless, their relationship eventually soured.
Charles Opio, the local leader of Jupazuba Village (LC1 chairperson), mentioned that the casual laborer grew suspicious upon noticing swarms of flies around the same area he was cultivating.
A team of medical professionals from Nebbi General Hospital is currently recovering the deceased’s body.
Oromcan Jalacida, the chairperson of Erussi sub-county (LC3 chairperson), attributes this tragic incident to the failure of family members to alert the authorities regarding the ongoing domestic conflicts.
Aminsi Kayondo, the Police commander of Nebbi district, strongly condemned this brutal murder. He assured that efforts to locate the suspect are underway.
He urged community members to remain vigilant and promptly report instances of domestic violence to the Police.
Additionally, Kayondo noted that the Police have recently documented three similar murder cases within the district.
