Police in Rubirizi District is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a senior four student, Moses Atukwatse, at St. Michael High School in Rugazi.
The headteacher, James Rukaijakare, stated that Atukwatse, an 18-year-old resident of Kambiringi cell, Rutoto sub-county, had been suspended from school approximately a week before his death for escaping from the school premises.

As a penalty for his actions, Atukwatse was instructed to return with a roll of barbed wire.
However, when he came back to the school on Tuesday, he failed to bring the required item and was sent back home.
To the school’s astonishment, Atukwatse was later discovered dead in the school store.
Preliminary investigations by Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson, suggest that Atukwatse sneaked back into the school at night and was observed climbing the wall of the school store by another student.
This student promptly informed the school guard about the intruder.
Subsequently, the school guard apprehended Atukwatse and confined him inside the store until the headteacher and the police could intervene.
Tragically, when the police arrived at the school on Thursday at 9:00 am to take custody of the student, they found his body hanging from the window panes.

It is suspected that Atukwatse might have taken his own life by hanging, using his belt.
As the investigation continues, Atukwatse’s body has been taken to Rugazi Health Center IV mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The authorities are conducting further inquiries to understand the circumstances leading to this unfortunate incident.
