The authorities in Rukungiri are currently conducting an investigation into the brutal killing of a woman in her forties.
It is alleged that Jacklin Kyomukama, a resident of Keitumuro cell in Northern B Ward, Eastern Division, Rukungiri district, was sexually assaulted before being strangled.

According to Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi Police region, the victim met her demise while returning from a local bar.
She was last seen on July 8, 2023, at 10:00 PM, enjoying a drink called kabiriti with other individuals at a bar in Keitumuro trading centre.
Her son, Niwamanya Simpson, who was on his way to a show at Rukungiri stadium, also passed by the bar and noticed his mother drinking with others, but she did not return home.
However, the following morning, the husband of the deceased received information that her body had been found in a nearby eucalyptus forest by herdsmen.
The matter was immediately reported to the police.

A police team visited the location, transported the body to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination, and subsequently released it to the family while investigations continued.
The case has been registered as a murder and suspected rape under the reference number CRB 937/2023.
