A state attorney at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has been found guilty of accepting a bribe amounting to sh200,000 from two individuals.
The Anti-Corruption Court in Nakasero in Kampala, under the jurisdiction of Grade One Magistrate Esther Asiimwe, rendered the verdict on October 13, 2023, convicting Simon Kiwanga on corruption charges pursuant to Sections 2(a) and 26 of the Anti–Corruption Act.

The accusation against Kiwanga involved the direct solicitation of sh6 million from Zam Ndagire and Octavious Kasumba while he was employed as a state prosecutor at Nabweru Chief Magistrate’s Court in Wakiso district.
Additionally, the prosecution maintained that Kiwanga accepted a gratification of sh200,000 from Ndagire on May 15, 2019, at Nabweru Play Ground. Notably, Ndagire and Kasumba were complainants in criminal case number 368 of 2019, which Kiwanga was prosecuting.
In her ruling, Magistrate Asiimwe affirmed that the prosecution successfully established Kiwanga’s acceptance of the money.
Consequently, she pronounced Kiwanga guilty of corruption as charged under count two. Magistrate Asiimwe scheduled the sentencing for October 18, 2023, and Kiwanga was remanded to Luzira prison pending the sentence.
