Reportedly, Corporal Lawrence Sibiwa, a Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) soldier attached to the 51 Infantry Battalion in Bukwo district, is accused of shooting and injuring a civilian.
The civilian has been identified as Fred Kwemoi, aged 34, residing in Taboswet village, Amananga Parish, Amananga sub-county in Bukwo district.

According to Major Isaac Oware, the 3rd Division UPDF Spokesperson, the incident took place on Sunday, July 16th, around 2100Hrs, along Kapchorwa-Bukwo-Suam Road.
The altercation allegedly occurred when Kwemoi was intercepted by soldiers who were guarding road equipment for China State Construction Company, leading to his shooting.
Sadly, Kwemoi sustained injuries during the confrontation and, while being evacuated to the hospital, he succumbed to his wounds.

Cpl Sibiwa, the alleged perpetrator, has been apprehended and is currently in UPDF custody.
The authorities are conducting a joint investigation into the matter.
