A mentally ill individual named Abura Pirir, who jumped onto the road in front of President Museveni’s convoy in Moroto, causing a brief halt before the convoy proceeded, has been released.
The incident occurred as the president was en route to Nadunget Subcounty in Moroto district for the groundbreaking ceremony of a Cement factory.
Fortunately, the driver skillfully avoided Pirir during the incident, and no one was injured. Subsequently, the presidential Special Forces Command promptly arrested Pirir and handed him over to Moroto Central Police Station.
According to Mike Longole Mike, the Police Spokesperson for Karamoja, the arrest was a precautionary measure aimed at preventing the distressed individual from harming himself or others. He emphasized that security forces are dedicated to maintaining peace throughout the Karamoja region.
Pirir, who was wearing a Muhoozi Kainerugaba T-shirt, expressed that his sole intention was to greet the president. He expressed confusion about why he was arrested, stating, “I don’t know why I was arrested; I just wanted to shake hands with the president.”
