In the Sipi region, Ms Juliet Chelangat, 43, was apprehended by the police for reportedly assaulting her husband, Mr Namawangala Stephen, 40, leading to his tragic demise.
Allegedly, the conflict arose when her husband misappropriated her savings of Shs200,000, withdrawn from the Kabati Village Savings Group on October 4, 2023, intended for their children’s education.

Despite her husband’s assurance of repayment on October 9, he failed to honor his commitment, resulting in a heated altercation on the night of October 8, culminating in the unfortunate death of Mr Namawangala.
Likewise, in Nabilatuk District, the authorities are actively seeking L/CPL Ruhuriza Michael, from the 49th Battalion’s Lopetageit detachment, following the fatal shooting of Ms Irama Mercy, 20, his cohabiting partner for five months.
Allegedly, this incident was triggered by the theft of Shs150,000, part of a loan obtained from the Wazalendo SACCO. Despite prior reports to the OC detachment regarding the continuous theft, no resolution was reached.
According to a police report on October 16, L/CPL Ruhuriza retrieved his firearm around 10 pm, following his return from a local bar, resulting in the tragic demise of Ms Irama. The weapon, along with 109 bullets, was found about 120 meters from the crime scene, accompanied by nine bullet shells.
The Police Spokesperson, SCP Enanga Fred, emphasized the significance of fostering respect and mutual understanding within households, citing these incidents as cautionary examples.
He urged individuals in strained relationships to seek assistance from the Child and Family Protection Unit, emphasizing the importance of seeking help before situations escalate to life-threatening levels.
