Should the Lockdown Be Lifted, Here Is What You Need To Know

As we count a few days to the 42-day lockdown instituted by the government to curb the spread of coronavirus disease, many individuals have come up to advise the government on what should be done at the end of the current lockdown.

As of today, Uganda has registered 92,724 total cases with 77,171 recoveries and 2,579 deaths.

In one of her recent interviews, Dr. Diana Atwine the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Health said every opportunity to access vaccines should be granted to Africa so that they can save lives and reopen their economies. She based on the fact that many of the vaccines used in Africa are a donation from other countries and the Covax initiative of the World Health Organization.

Many Ugandans have shown dissatisfaction with how the ministry of health has handled covid-19 funds, especially those donated by Ugandans in the first lockdown. Earlier this week, a group of unknown Ugandans thrown a coffin in front of the Mulago national referral hospital main gate demanding the resignation of Dr. Diana Atwine.

While addressing the nation on covid-19 updates, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng the minister of health, requested Ugandans seek accountability appropriately instead of throwing coffins.

Currently, more than one million Ugandans have been fully vaccinated with two COVID-19 jabs. Some experts have suggested that to fully re-open the country, Uganda should ensure that at least half of the current population is fully vaccinated.

On Saturday 31st July 2021, the president of Uganda is set to address the country on the next steps to be taken after the end of the instituted lockdown.
