Prime Minister Nabbanja’s Bodyguard disappears in USA, Says He Won’t Return

One of Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja’s bodyguards has reportedly gone missing in the USA, where he had accompanied his boss for an official trip to New York.

According to close sources, Mr. Emmanuel Atwiine vanished from a Manhattan hotel on Tuesday night and this was discovered the following morning when he failed to show up for breakfast, but his fellows initially thought he had overslept.

“Yes, it is true the prime minister’s bodyguard disappeared from her, and this happened around 7am New York time on Wednesday,” Mr. Odongtho, the spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, said, adding, “It is now a matter for the police, Uganda’s embassy in New York, and New York authorities.”

The delegation tried calling him after growing suspicion but couldn’t locate him on the phone, and the hotel intercom too failed to find him on the call. His luggage, though, was left in his room.

The bodyguard, who had served Ms. Nabbanja for nearly twelve years, reportedly informed a delegation member not to worry about him, saying that he would not be returning home.

On a follow-up by the OPM, the bodyguard had already reached Canada, where it is believed that he has relatives there and other sources say that he is still in Chicago

The prime minister, Nabbanja, had flown to New York to represent the President at the UN General Assembly’s high-level thematic debate on debt sustainability and socio-economic equality.

The disappearance of Mr. Atwiine comes 19 months after Parliament Speaker Anitah Among’s chief bodyguard, Aggrey Aruho, went missing in California, where he had traveled to attend the 34th Uganda North America Association (UNAA) convention.
